Through the French Revolution, two World Wars, the quartz crisis of the 1970s, and every market disruption in between, Vacheron Constantin never stopped making watches. That continuity is meaningful. It means the brand carries 270 years of accumulated technical knowledge, an archive of movements and complications that informs every watch it produces today.

In 1996, Vacheron Constantin joined the Richemont group alongside Cartier, IWC, Panerai, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and A. Lange & Sohne. Unlike the Royal Oak's overnight creation or Panerai's military origins, Vacheron's identity was built slowly, over centuries, through a consistent commitment to finishing standards and movement complexity. The current third-generation Overseas, introduced in 2016, runs the in-house Calibre 5100 with Geneva Seal certification, magnetic resistance to 25,000 A/m, and a three-strap interchangeable system including steel bracelet, alligator leather, and rubber. Available in 41mm self-winding, chronograph, dual time, perpetual calendar, and world time configurations. The steel Overseas is the only current Vacheron reference that consistently trades at or above retail on the secondary market, driven by tight boutique supply and strong collector demand. Ref. 4500V is the entry-point self-winding; ref. 5500V is the chronograph; ref. 7900V is the dual time.

Patrimony. Vacheron's classical dress collection, defined by slim profiles, minimalist dials, and long baton hour markers. The Patrimony Self-Winding in rose gold is the most recognizable entry point, at 40mm with a clean two-hand dial and the Calibre 2450. Historiques. Vacheron's archive reissue collection, drawing directly from the brand's 270-year vault of reference designs. The Cornes de Vache 1955 reissues Vacheron's column-wheel chronograph with the distinctive cow-horn lugs that gave the original its nickname, powered by the in-house Calibre 1142. The American 1921 reissues a driving watch made for the American market in the 1920s, featuring a dial rotated 45 degrees so the hands could be read without taking one's eyes off the road. The ref. 222 reissue, launched at Watches & Wonders 2023 in yellow gold and steel, immediately attracted strong secondary market premiums. FiftySix. Vacheron's entry-level collection and the most accessible point into the brand, introduced in 2018 and named after the ref. 6073 from 1956. Available in 40mm stainless steel or rose gold with automatic movements and retro-inspired sector dials, with Maltese cross-shaped lug architecture. The FiftySix runs the Calibre 1326 rather than the Overseas's 5100, and does not carry the full Geneva Seal that higher collections do. Steel examples retail from approximately $14,000 and represent a legitimate entry point for buyers exploring Vacheron for the first time. Pre-owned FiftySix examples trade at 10 to 35 percent below retail depending on year and condition.

Why Vacheron Is Undervalued Relative to Patek and AP

A Patek Philippe Calatrava or a Vacheron Patrimony occupy identical positions in the watch hierarchy. The Calatrava carries Patek's own Patek Philippe Seal. Both are manufactured in small quantities in Geneva.
