How is the Grande Date different from the standard Fifty Fathoms 5015?
The date. Instead of a single small window at 4:30, this one carries two separate discs at 6 o'clock that display the date in large numerals you can read without squinting. Same 45mm case, same sapphire bezel, same 300m rating. The movement is the Calibre 6918B, which is the 1315 base with a big date module on top.
Does the big date jump instantly at midnight?
Yes. Both discs advance together in a single jump rather than crawling over a few minutes. Quick-setting is done through the crown, and there's no need to avoid a danger zone when setting, unlike some older big date mechanisms. Power reserve stays at 120 hours off three barrels.
Is the sailcloth strap durable enough for daily wear?
Very. Blancpain's sailcloth is a woven synthetic with a rubber backing, so it doesn't absorb water or sweat the way leather does and it holds up to salt. It's stiff at first and softens over a few weeks. If you'd rather have a bracelet, the 5050 takes the same 23mm titanium bracelet as the 5015.
