How does the Santos 100 compare to the current Santos de Cartier?
The Santos 100 is the 2004 to 2018 generation: thicker case, larger crown guard, and Calibre 049 inside. The current Santos de Cartier is slimmer and adds the QuickSwitch strap system. Plenty of buyers prefer the 100 for its heft and the exposed screws on the bezel.
Does 38mm mean this wears like a 38mm watch?
No. Cartier measures the Santos 100 Large at 38mm wide, but the case runs 51mm lug to lug and the square shape fills the wrist. It wears closer to a 41mm or 42mm round watch. Try it before assuming it's a small piece.
Should I be concerned that this is watch only, no box or papers?
Cartier can verify the serial through its own records, and this reference is common enough that papers add little to authentication. What matters more is service history, and this example had a full service in August 2026.
