What is a sandwich dial?
Two stacked plates. The top plate has the numerals and markers cut out, and a layer of Super-LumiNova sits on the plate beneath, showing through the openings. It's the original Panerai construction from the 1940s and gives the beige lume real depth against the tobacco brown. Numerals aren't printed on, they're recessed into the dial.
How does the P.6000 compare to the P.9010?
Both are in-house. The P.6000 is hand-wound with 72 hours of reserve and a small seconds at 9, which is the layout on this watch. The P.9010 is automatic with a date and a quick-set hour hand. If you'd rather wind a Panerai than hear a rotor, the P.6000 is the one to have, and it keeps the case slimmer.
Does a polished 44mm Luminor wear larger than brushed?
Slightly. Polished steel catches light and reads bigger, and the crown guard adds visual width. It sits best on a 7-inch wrist or above. The trade-off is that polished cases show hairline scratches sooner than brushed, though they also polish out cleanly at service.
