Frequently Asked Questions
How does the 47040 compare to the current Overseas 4500V?
This is the second generation, produced 2004 to 2016. It runs 42mm with a closed caseback and a soft iron inner shell for magnetic resistance. The 4500V dropped to 41mm, added the in-house Calibre 5100, and introduced the quick-change strap system. Many collectors prefer this one for the larger case and more angular bezel.
Why does this Overseas have a solid caseback instead of sapphire?
Vacheron fitted the second generation with a soft iron inner case that shields the movement from magnetic fields up to 25,000 A/m. That shielding only works with a closed back. It's a practical feature that the current generation gave up for a display window.
Can the bracelet be sized down from an 8-inch wrist?
Yes. The bracelet is fully linked, and the Maltese cross links come out with a standard screwdriver. A watchmaker can size it to any wrist in a few minutes, and the removed links stay with the watch.
